Abstract

The measurement of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is the most common test to monitor glycemic control in patient with diabetes. However, there are some limitations for short-term variations in blood glucose change and incorrectness in patients with abnormal hemoglobin production. Glycated albumin (GA) is more sensitive indicator of short-term glycemic change than HbA1c and many studies have been reported recently according to develop measurement method. As assistant of HbA1c, GA can be a valuable method enough, and in advance, it could be the first method instead of HbA1c in some diseases, such as end-stage renal disease with hemodialysis. But most of all, it is necessary to standardize the measurement method of GA and to decide normal reference range.
