Background: The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of the combined exercise of walking and lumbar stabilization on the pulmonary function and lumbar deep muscles of the physical therapists with chronic low back pain at the age of 20- 30.
Methods: In this study, 10 healthy people attended this study as a control group and 2 groups were divided as the CP(combined exercises of walking and lumbar stabilization) group and WP(walking exercise) group, with the number of the subjects were in 11 and 10, respectively. Before exercise programs, all groups had been examined using VAS, pulmonary function test, EMG (RMS of lumbar deep muscle during expiration) test and endurance of lumbar deep muscle. The main exercise for WP group was 40 min-walking on the treadmill, and the main exercise for CP were 20 min-walking and 20 minlumbar stabilization. The exercise has been done 3 times a week for 10 weeks.
Results: First, VAS, FEV1, MVV, FVC, RTRA, LTRA and EOTRA were significantly different between patient and non-patientb group. Second, only VAS, MVV, LTRA and EOTRA scores were significantly different in WP group. In CP group VAS, MVV, PEF and EOTRA score were significantly different after 10 weeks.
Conclusions: This study suggested that both types of exercise increased to VAS, pulmonary function, EMG activities of lumbar sites after 10 weeks. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that exercise reduced LBP and optimized pulmonary function and lumbar deep muscles.
