Nerve Block in Shoulder Joint
Kim Hee-Sang

Yoo Seung-Don
Abstract
The shoulder joint is one of the most common peripheral joints to be treated in the physical therapy clinic, and nerve block to the shoulder joint is an effective treatment for shoulder pain. Nerves of the proximal upper extremity, trunk and head are easily accessible to percutaneous block procedures. Blocks in many of these specific areas carry the risk of pneumothorax because of the proximity of the pleural cavity to the regional anatomy. Therefore, blocks in this region require the clinician to have a thorough knowledge of shoulder, neck, and chest wall anatomy. The typical nerve blocks of the shoulder joint are to the suprascapular nerve, thoracodorsal nerve, lower subscapular nerve, cervical stellate ganglion (SGB), epidural block of the cervical spine, and intravenous injection. The methods, indications, complications or side effects of these nerves blocks are explained.
