Abstract

Although myopathy usually involves the proximal muscles, a thorough evaluation of the entire extremity should be performed so as to not overlook abnormal distal findings. Focal myositis is a soft tissue pseudotumor characterized by severe pain and selective involvement of a single muscle by the inflammatory process, and is a rare clinical entity. Focal myositis may present with or without symptoms mimicking a systemic process, but its clinical course reveals high rate of spontaneous regression. We report 2 cases of distinct distal myopathies which were assessed by electromyography and MRI, and confirmed by muscle biopsy.
