Ultrasonographic Findings of the Hip Disorders
Park Gi-Young

Abstract
The advent of high-resolution ultrasonographic technology has enhanced the value of ultrasonography as a diagnostic imaging modality for the assessment of various hip joint and soft tissue pathologies. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the ultrasonographic appearance of various disorders of the hip. The role of ultrasonography in the evaluation of the pediatric hip disorders is well recognized. However, its usefulness is less well recognized and often underused in adults. Indications include assessment of joint effusion, muscle and tendon abnormalities, and bursitis. In addition, ultrasonography is a valuable tool in assisting with joint aspiration and injections. In the hip disorders, the main value of ultrasonography is the ability to differentiate between intra-articular and extra-articular pathology. This ultrasonographic information can be provided quickly, at a low cost, and applies to the adult and pediatric patients.
