Abstract
Objective: The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of stellate ganglion block (SGB) for refractory tinnitus with medication.

Materials and Methods: From June 2009 through September 2009, 12 patients with tinnitus treated by department of otolaryngology with medication whose symptom fail to improve, were subjected for SGB. Pre and post-treatment status was analyzed by tinnitus handicap inventories.

Results: Subjective tinnitus was improved in 5 (41.6%) of 12 patients, and the response group had tendency of shorter history of tinnitus than the non-response group. There was no difference between the response group and the non-response group in age, sex, site, and tinnitus.

Conclusion: We suggest that SGB is an effective treatment for tinnitus refractory to medical treatment medications. Therefore, SGB could be considered as another therapeutic modality in idiopathic tinnitus. However, further controlled study is required.
