Abstract
Objective : To evaluate the change of chondromalacia in one year by comparing the initial and the last data of physical examination, functional knee scale and pressure-assisted knee X-ray.

Materials and Methods: Sixteen patients (6 men, 10 women) with clinically suspected chondromalacia were participated. All participants were included by clinical criteria of chondromalacia and had no operation history and knee joint contracture. We rechecked physical examination, functional knee scale and pressure-assisted knee X-ray. To measure the degree standing against pressure in knee X-ray, 150 mmHg pressure was applied at the knee with manual hemodynamometer. And we compared the parameters of the two patella tangential views, before and after application of pressure.

Results: The score of visual analog scale was significantly decreased compared with the initial study (p£¼0.05). Similarly, Knee society score and 12-item knee score were significantly improved compared with the initial studies (p£¼0.05). However the parameters of the pressure assisted knee X-ray were not changed significantly in one year (p£¾0.05).

Conclusion: Though the pain symptom of chondromalacia was improved, the data of pressure-assisted knee X-ray didn¡¯t show significant change. The softness of knee cartilage didn¡¯t correlate well with the patient¡¯s symptom.
