Effectiveness of Clinically Relevant Taping
Kim Eun-Kuk

Abstract
For more than a century, taping has been advocated as a means to protect the ligaments from excessive strain. Widespread belief in the effectiveness of taping and the high incidence of sprains among athletes resulted in ubiquitous use of the procedure within athletic organizations for many years. Therefore, skillful application of adhesive tape to the athletes remains strongly associated with the role of the sports practitioners. Additionally, other musculoskeletal conditions, such as patellofemoral pain syndrome and osteoarthritis of the knee, have also been managed with taping. However, the use of different taping techniques is dictated more by considerations of cost, comfort, ease of application, personal preference, age, or the type of sport. Physiotherapists and other sports practitioners who apply tapes need to be aware of the evidence for and against the use of this method. In this way, rehabilitation procedures or prophylactic advice can be applied more scientifically
