Abstract
Cancer rehabilitation is a complex discipline that involves the interaction of diverse health care providers. Optimum health care management requires a multi-discipline approach. This study describes our care system for providing comprehensive management of upper limb dysfunction (ULD) for breast cancer survivors. Cancer treatment continuous, comprehensive care includes physical rehabilitation and exercise that integrated with disease treatment. After referral to the department of rehabilitation, the type of ULD is diagnosed and categorized based on symptoms and physical examination. Specific rehabilitation programs are recommended according to the specific diagnosis. We developed a surveillance rehabilitation system for early detection and proper diagnosis of ULD after breast cancer treatment, and a continuous management system including a prevention, diagnosis and rehabilitation program. A surveillance program would allow healthcare providers to detect ULD early, affording better opportunities to prevent progression to the subclinical stage and to institute continuous care plans from the inpatient to the outpatient settings.
