Abstract
Background: Atopic dermatitis(AD) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease. Transepidermal water
loss(TEWL), as a marker of barrier function, was already two-fold increased in non-lesional and four-fold increased
in lesional skin, compared with the skin of normal controls. The recent studies suggested that the specific replacement therapy, which targets the prominent lipid abnormalities that account for the barrier abnormality in AD, corrects both the permeability barrier abnormality and comprises effective anti-inflammatory therapy for AD.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an APDDR-0801 in the treatment of patients affected by AD with acute lesions at the time of examination.

Methods: 30 patients(mean age 12.6¡¾11.2 years) affected by AD were recruited. They had been applied APDDR-0801 to their whole body twice a day for 4 week. The overall severity of the disease was evaluated using the SCORAD index. To evaluate the skin barrier functional status, we measured the TEWL by tewameter, skin surface pH and
the skin hydration by corneometer. All patients were evaluated at baseline, 14 days and 28 days after the initial examination after the initial examination.

Results: There was a significant decrease of SCOARD index. (initial: 32.7¡¾9.66 ¡æ after 2weeks: 24.86¡¾7.04. ¡æ after 4weeks: 15.45¡¾9.69), skin barrier fuction as shown in TEWL(initial: 31.6¡¾15.96, 28.97¡¾12.95 ¡æ after 2weeks:
24.565¡¾11.43, 22.93¡¾10.36 ¡æ after 4weeks: 17.56¡¾6.49, 15.45¡¾9.69), and skin hydration(initial: 5.49¡¾0.42, 5.39¡¾ 0.56 ¡æ after 2weeks: 5.36¡¾0.27, 5.34¡¾0.50 ¡æ after 4weeks: 5.23¡¾0.24, 5.23¡¾0.39).

Conclusion: APDDR-0801 showed potential to become an effective treatment of AD.
