Abstract
In 2022, external quality assessment trials were conducted for urinalysis and fecal occult blood (FOB) testing with data from 1,751 and 696 participants, respectively. Urine chemistry tests, including pH, protein, glucose, ketone, bilirubin, blood, urobilinogen, nitrite, and leukocyte, and specific gravity were conducted 3 times. Additionally, urine sediment and FOB tests were performed twice. Results of urine chemistry and specific gravity tests consistently surpassed the acceptable rates of >95%, except for ketone, protein, bilirubin, leukocyte, and urobilinogen. Instruments with <80% acceptable rates in pH, blood, ketone, leukocytes, protein, bilirubin, or urobilinogen tests were Simens (10 times), Arkray (7 times), and Sysmex (6 times). The urine sediment test showed acceptable rates of above 80% for transitional epithelial cells, bilirubin, ammonium magnesium phosphate, uric acid, and calcium phosphate crystals but below 80% for waxy cast and renal tubular epithelial cells. In the FOB qualitative test, all reagents showed acceptable rates of above 90% for negative and positive samples. However, in the FOB quantitative test, positive samples results varied among companies, suggesting the need for standardization. Alfresa NS-Plus C showed high values for the negative specimen.
