A Study on the Return to Work Factors for Industrially Injured Workers
Lee Seung-Wook

Abstract
This study was aimed to analyze important factors affecting return to work among persons with industrial injuries. The secondary data were obtained from the registry of injured workers at Korean Labor Welfare Corporation and are analyzed to have policy implications for the disabled workers. Data were gathered from 499 persons with industrial injuries who completed medical treatment after their work injury in 2005. The data were finalized and refined using dummy coding procedures. The dependent variable, "return to work" was operationalized by 4 social insurance data combining all together: Workers Compensation, Unemployment Benefits, Health Insurance, and National Pension. The data were analyzed using statistical techniques such as frequency test, cross tabulation, and binomial logistic and hierarchical logistic regression based on the contextual factor, the intervention factor, the environmental factor, and the individual factor. The major finding of this study were as follows: From the ecological perspectives, the age, the type of industry, re-hospitalization experience and the degree of satisfaction for social adaptation were important predicting variables for returning to work. The prediction indicated the increase of a rate of 0.034 fold for younger people, a 3.055 fold for not being under the construction area, a 3.216 fold for not being re-hospitalization, and a 1.320 fold for the satisfaction for social adaptation.
