A Qualitative Inquiry on the Perception and Experience of Special Educators regarding Transition Education for Students with Disabilities in General High Schools

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the situation of transition education, and the strategies and the support needs of special educators, through interviewing with them for perception and experience on transition education for students with disabilities in general high school settings. A total of nine special educators participated and were interviewed individually. The scripts of interview were analyzed and the four themes and twelve subthemes were emerged. The themes emerged were (1) the perception of transition education, (2) the experience of transition education, (3) support needs for the improving implement of transition education (4) the situation of carrier education. Finally, several specific implications for the development of supports and programs of transition education in general high school settings based on the results were provided.
