A Study on the Needs Survey for Implementing Personal Assistnace Services in the Workplace for people with disabilities

Abstract
In this paper, a needs survey to measure the demand and contents for the personal assistance service in the workplace for people with disabilities was conducted with the purpose of building basic data and illustrating future directions. Of a population of workers with severe disabilities in Korea, a valid sample of 552 workers with severe disabilities that were registered in the Employment Network of Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled database was selected. The survey constitutes the realm of service, frequency, time, cost/agent, and type of human resource etc of personal assistance service in the workplace. The results show that the blind, people with brain disorder and people with development disabilities need personal assistance service in the workplace more than those with any other type of disability. In addition, personal assistance service such as commuting to and from work, carrying objects, and communicating in the workplace were areas in which services were most needed. Furthermore examples of personal assistance service in the workplace in developed countries, implications, legal and financial grounds for future implementations, and delivery system are mentioned.
