Abstract
This study analyzed the reasonable accommodations¡¯ impacts on employment and job retention of people with disabilities. The results showed that reasonable accommodations in workplace for people with disabilities could be effective means to increase employment and job retention of the disabled. In facility accommodations, a ramp, rest room, automatic door, parking lot for the disabled and workplace facilities reformation were helpful for the disabled¡¯s employment and job retention. Work assistance instruments and the other reasonable accommodations(eg. commuting vehicles, job reassignment, work load realignment. etc) enabled people with disabilities to get a job more easily and stay longer in their occupations. The reasonable accommodations¡¯ impacts were different according to a size of company. Its impacts were more positive in small companies than large ones. Compared with employment impacts, job retention impacts of the reasonable accommodations were lower. But an elevator, slope way and lounge for disabled were helpful for their job retention. The above results imply that government¡¯s efforts has to be focused on workplace environment improvement(eg. reasonable accommodations aid) if they are seeking a effective way for increasing employment and job retention of people with disabilities.
