Abstract
Since the innovative programs of vocational rehabilitation were initiated, employment outcomes for people with psychiatric disabilities have been known as abruptly improved in terms of job-obtaining rates, but neither job difficulty level nor job retention. Reviewing descriptive reports and outcome study results on supported education as started 30 years ago, researchers potentially concluded that supported education may improve diverse occupational outcomes of people with psychiatric disabilities. Supported education is similar to supported employment in terms of its conceptions and approaches. Moreover, its outcomes turned out to be closely related to supported employment outcomes. In this context, this study reviewed the literature relevant to supported education for the purposes of suggesting its need, justifying and rationalizing its programming. Specifically, the authors searched extensive databases and selected relevant articles accoring to certain criteria. Reviewing the selected articles, we discussed those issues such as its origin, development, meanings, and needs. Also our suggestions for future study were discussed.
