The Current Status of Industry Vocational Training Programs for Students with Disabilities Perceived by Special Education Teachers in Korea and The Tasks Ahead

Abstract
This study was aimed to investigate the current status of industry vocational training programs for students with disabilities in Korea and to provide future directions. A total of 73 vocational education teachers working in special schools(classes) participated in this study. The questionnaire from related studies has been modified and reviewed by associated professionals as a way to validate the reliability of the survey.
The study result indicated that special education teachers tended to consider employable property of student with disabilities in the selection and placement process of industry vocational training, revealing the lack of active consumer involvement in the process. Establishment of legal support system encompassing the strengthening of institutional collaboration and the developing of various vocational training programs in the industrial settings, has been proposed. As a way of supporting the special education teachers specialized in vocational education and training, providing various formal continuing education programs in the fields of vocational evaluation and resolving the work overloads experienced by the teachers have been suggested. Strong interest expressed by school principles toward industry vocational training programs has been demanded, along with the preparation of necessary work spaces in special school settings. Conclusions and discussions were provided.
