A Study on the Determinants of Retirement of the Elderly with Disabilities

Abstract
Most elderly with disabilities are not prepared for their later years and only 13.3% of them are prepared with their or the public pension. Thus, households with disabled retirees without sources of their income after retirement have greater possibility that their economic condition is worsening, which indicates serious poverty issue in households with disabilities in middle-aged and advanced-aged retirees. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of retirement and determinants of retirement of the elderly with disabilities. This study analyzes Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled in 2008 and focuses on retirement of elderly with disabilities who had entered the labor market.
There are many determinants with statistically significant effects to their decisions such as gender, age, matial status, health capital, Various sources of income, financial assets, the employment status and if they are employed, some job characteristics affect elderly with disabilities if they decide to retire or not. It is an important policy direction to overcome the challenge of aging society to prevent such practicies going against the trend of an aging society and provide the older with job opportunity, social safety net to guarantee their stable later years and to promote public pension enhancing their satisfaction after retirement.
