The Longitudinal Relationships between Social Support and Depressive Symptoms in people with hearing loss

Abstract
This study examined the longitudinal relationships between social support and depressive symptoms of people with hearing loss. Data came from the 9st and 12th waves collected in Korean Welfare Panel Study. The sample of this study consisted of 136 people with hearing loss. This study employed an Autoregressive Cross-lagged Model (ACLM) to test autoregressive effects of within-variables and cross-lagged effects of between-variables. Results were in the followings. First, the measurement model fit data well. Second, the structural model fit data well. Third, social support in previous time point predicted subsequent depressive symptoms. Fourth, depressive symptoms in previous time point predicted subsequent social support. Fifth, social support in previous time point didn¡¯t predicted subsequent social support. Sixth, depressive symptoms in previous time point predicted subsequent depressive symptoms. The authors discussed about efficient alternatives to increase social support and to decrease depressive symptoms of people with hearing loss.
