Analysis of the impact of employment on the disease : Focusing on target group of employment of people with disabilities
Jun Young-Hwan

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine whether persons with diseases can be included in employment services for the disabled. In order to accomplish these research objectives, we analyzed empirically whether disease possession affects economic activity participation and employment retention. Korean medical panel data were used as the analysis data. Panel logit analysis was used to analyze the effects of disease on economic activity participation. The employment retention effect of workers with severe illness was analyzed by propensity score matching method.
As a result of the analysis, the probability of participating in economic activities was lower by about 10% than the ones without disease. Wage workers with severe illnesses showed lower rates of retention of employment insurance than wage workers without severe illness. These results demonstrate that illness is negative for people's participation in economic activity and job retention.
Finally, policy implications are suggested. It is necessary to provide appropriate employment services for the severely ill persons not included in the employment policy for the disabled, considering the difficulty of economic activities and the intervention of the employment policy for persons with diseases is required for this purpose.
