A Study on the Economic Activity Experience of the Elderly with Physical Disabilities

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the economic activity experiences of elderly people with physical disabilities. To this end, an in-depth interview was conducted with a total of five elderly people physically disabled people aged 55 or older who have been participating in economic activities for more than 20 years, focusing on various experiences that occurred in the course of economic activities. As a result of the study, the structure of the economic activity experience of the elderly people with physical disabilities was derived into five upper categories and 13 lower categories. The five top categories were , , , , and . The common factors that led elderly people with physical disabilities to continue their economic activities despite the double difficulties of disability and old age are as follows. First, economic activities were a space for communication that allowed them to grow together while playing their role as members of society. Second, economic activities gave a sense of psychological stability in that they could prepare for retirement, and it was a time of self-realization to experience happiness through a sense of accomplishment and social belonging to work. Based on the results of these studies, a plan was proposed to revitalize the economic activities of the elderly people with disabilities so that the elderly people with disabilities living in the aging era can prepare for a successful and stable retirement life through economic activities.
