Abstract
The prevalence of ¡°early repolarization (ER)¡± patterns in the general population varies from 1% to 15% according to differences in definitions, diagnostic methods, and studied populations. Historically, ER was considered benign. However, this perception changed as several studies established an association between ER and an increased risk of idiopathic ventricular fibrillation. Despite the increased relative risk of arrhythmia associated with prognostic variables, the increased absolute risk in the general population is still small. Therefore, the incidental identification of ER in asymptomatic patients should not be interpreted to mean that they belong to a high-risk group.
