Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of the school-based suicide intervention program, "Comforting with Hope", and the mourning process through the acceptance and intervention of the school.

Methods : First of all, data were collected via the administration of IES-R-K, CES-D, and SIQ on 771 elementary and junior high school students in Seoul who participated in a group counseling program called "Comforting with Hope" between 2011 and 2017 with the consent of their parents and guardians. Following that, a paired sample t-test was performed by using SPSS 24.0. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with 3 school staff members who participated in "Comforting with Hope" intervention in 2017 to investigate the mourning process through the acceptance and intervention of the school. The collected data were analyzed using the phenomenological method as defined by Colaizzi (1978).

Results : As a result of the pre-post comparison on the group counseling program, it was found that self-reported stress, depression, and suicidal ideation decreased, which was statistically significant. Also, the mourning process through acceptance and intervention was divided into four categories: experience of trauma, trial and error in problem solving, beginning to mourn together, and recovery.

Conclusion : The school-based post-suicide intervention program, "Comforting with Hope," indicated statistically significant effects on the self-reported stress, depression, and the suicidal ideation of elementary and junior high school students who have experienced school-based suicide, and the study suggests that "Comforting with Hope" provides not only 'recovery from the trauma' but also an opportunity to experience 'growth'.
