Abstract

Measuring hand grip strength and gait speed for the diagnosis of sarcopenia can be used to assess an individual's muscle function to a certain level. However, it is difficult to assess the precise deterioration of the patients with various spectrum of clinical encounter. Also, when planning a clinical study for sarcopenia, it is difficult to identify more sensitive and precise changes in function to confirm the effectiveness of the treatment. Therefore, a more comprehensive functional assessment of the individual patient is required. In this review, comprehensive functional evaluation tools for sarcopenia are introduced.
