Effects of Dietary Supplementation of Probiotics(Economix(R)) on Milk Production and Economic Characteristics in Lactating Dairy Cattle

Abstract
A study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of probiotics (Ewnomix^R) on milk production and economic characteristics in lactating dairy cattle. A total of 12 lactating dairy cattle were allocated into three feeding groups, 0, 0.2 and 0.5% Economix^R for 3 months. During the first month of the experimental periods, total feed intake in the cows fed the diets containing 0.5% Economix^R was increased (p$lt;0.05) compared with control (p$lt;0.05). Intakes of concentrate, rice straw, Tall fescue, Kraim grass and TMR were not significantly changed for the entire experimental periods. Four percentage of FCM yield, Milk fat content and SNF content were improved (p$lt;0.05) by the supplementation of 0.5% Economix^R. Somatic cell numbers were significantly reduced (p$lt;0.05) by the supplementation of 0.5% Economix^R. The number of E. coli in feces of the dairy cattle fed the diet supplemented with Economix^R was decreased (p$lt;0.05) while Lactobacillus numbers were increased (p$lt;0.05). Total income per milk yield was highly improved by the supplementation of Economix^R. These results indicate that marked and effective responses were noted in the lactating dairy cattle fed the diet supplemented with the 0.5% Economix^R.
