Educational Strategies for Insulin Injection Therapy in Elderly Diabetic Patients
Shin Eun-Chong

Abstract
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) has increased, with about 30% of patients over the age of 65 suffering from diabetes. Because DM requires intensive treatment, the rate of insulin use has increased in elderly diabetes patients. The elderly can suffer from physical, psychological, and socioeconomic problems, making it difficult to administer insulin injections. When educating elderly diabetic patients, it is necessary to reduce psychological insulin resistance and to educate them about the physical diseases related to aging and complications. Also, the patients should be provided appropriate educational materials and informed of available resources. It is important for elderly diabetes patients to receive continuous repetition and encouragement for proper insulin administration.
