Diabetes and Exercise
Ahn Ji-Hyun

Abstract
Regular exercise is an important cornerstone for diabetic patients because it improves glycemic control and reduces the occurrence of cardiovascular complications and mortality. Both aerobic and resistance training can improve insulin action, lipid profiles, and blood pressure. Therefore, exercise should be done regularly and various type of training should be included for continued benefits. The benefits of exercise are discussed based on the joint position statement of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Diabetes Association, and Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes by American Diabetes Association.
