Pigmentation protects cells from harmful effects of sunlight or oxidative stress. It is due to the synthesis and dispersion of melanin. Our study has shown to melanogenesis effect of L-arginine on B16F10 cells, murine melanoma cells. L-arginine (0¡200 mM) exhibited effective cell growth inhibition dosedependently. L-arginine decrease level of ROS (reactive oxygen species). Further investigation revealed that L-arginine is a factor of melanogenesis. tyrosinase activity and Melanin contents increased dose dependent manner. Taken together, these findings suggest that L-arginine has to decrease the level of ROS, and increase tyrosinase activity and melanogenesis.
