The Effect of Personality Types on Academic Burnout and Sleep Quality of Dental Hygiene Students

|
The purpose of this study was to reveal association between personality types on academic burnout and sleep quality. Personality types were composed of extraversion, neuroticism, openness, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. We thought these factors affect to the academic burnout and sleep quality. For this study, 218 dental hygiene students in Busan and Gyeongnam are participated in this study. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, earson¡¯s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS 21.0 program. In conclusion, we obtained the next results. First, the mean of academic burnout was 2.51 out of 5. In terms of sub-domain, exhaustion (2.95) is the highest, followed by inefficacy (2.36) and cynicism (2.01). Second, the influencing factor in academic burnout were neuroticism (¥â=.363) and conscientiousness (¥â=-.263), adjusted R2=.199. Third, the influencing factor in sleep quality were oral hygiene neuroticism (¥â=.266), adjusted R2=.066. According to the results, neuroticism and conscientiousness are effective in decreasing the academic burnout. Also, neuroticism is effective in increasing the sleep quality.
