The purpose of this study is to propose a substantial theory by researching directors¡¯ experience of the psychodrama processes by protagonists. In-depth interview was conducted with 10 directors who have directed for more than 30 times. Data were analyzed using a grounded theory approach; 206 concepts, 40 subcategories, and 6 categories were identified. The central phenomenon was identified as ¡®Living as I-God¡¯; the causal condition was identifed as ¡®Standing as a Protagonist¡¯; the contextual condition was identified as ¡®Being a Protagonist¡¯; the mediation condition was identified as ¡®a Protagonist Enact¡¯; the interaction strategy was identified as ¡®a Protagonist has been Through¡¯; and the result was identified as ¡®a Protagonist has Changed¡¯. This study is meaningful in deducing the psychodrama therapeutic elements of protagonists from the directors¡¯ experiences and showing the interactions among those elements as a paradigm model, which leads to promote the understanding the mechanism by introducing how directors, as the core relationship with protagonists, experience the processes of psychodrama.
