Abstract

Mouth breathing is accompanied by functional problems, such as lip insufficiency, low tongue posture and decreased masticatory muscle activity. If the oral environment is out of balance due to mouth breathing, craniofacial deformities become severe. Therefore, it is becoming important to differentiate and diagnose the cause of problems accurately and to break the relationship between mouth breathing and skeleton by determining the appropriate timing and method of intervention. In this case report, skeletal Class II growing patient with mouth breathing was treated with growth modification by the combination of adenotonsillectomy, myofunctional therapy and functional appliance. As a result, changes in the way of breathing and position of tongue during the facial growth had a positive effect on the improvement of mandible growth direction.
