Axillary Surgery in Breast Cancer
Yu Jong-Han

Abstract
Axillary surgery in breast cancer is for staging as a prognostic tool and therapeutic intervention. However, axillary lymph node dissection can be the main cause of morbidity such as lymphedema. As a result, lymphedema makes the quality of life of survivors impaired. Recently, the extent of axillary surgery is de-escalated while maintaining the oncological safety and different techniques for localization of targeted lymph nodes have emerged. Currently, in breast cancer, surgery for axillary lymph nodes should be performed by appropriate methods based on the results of the previous studies according to the clinical condition of each patient.
