The Study on Mental Health of Girl's High School Students

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to establish the basic data for girl s high school students mental health states and to provide baseline data of nursing intervention program for promoting adolescents mental health in community.

Method: The participants were 446 academic girl s high school students and 240 vocational girl s high school students from the 1st graders in Busan. The data collected from April 28, 2009 to May 30, 2009. Data was collected by self-report a five-point likert scale(1-5) using Lee s Instrument of mental health(1986) that revised from Derogatis et al s Symptom Check List-90(1976). The higher score of this scale means worse status of mental health.

Result: The degree of mental health of subjects was low mean 1.69¡¾.50, the depression is highest among mental health sub-variables. The mental health of the vocational girl s high school students was worse than the academics. As for subjects in mental health by their various characteristics, there are significant by school(t=-4.949, p= .000), economic status(F=18.093, p= .000), father s job(F=2.963, p= .002), parents marriage stage(F=6.686, p= .001), family atmosphere(F=18.903, p=.000), cognitive health status(F=25.437, p= .000), character(t=2.812, p= .039), satisfaction of whole life(F=45.811, p= .000).

Conclusion: Therefore the intervention program needs to improve mental health of vocational high school girl s students as well as academic high school girl s students, and need to establish depression relieving nursing intervention program for girl s high school students.
