Relationships between Self-efficacy, Self-care Behavior and Quality of Life in Patients with Hematologic Malignancy

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of the present study was to examine the relations between self-efficacy, self-care behaviors, and quality of life among patients with hematologic malignancy.

Methods : This study is a descriptive correlational design. The subjects of this study were 180 patients, diagnosed with the hematologic malignancy in B city. The utilized measurements were Self-Efficacy Scale Self-Care Behavior Scale and Quality of life uropean Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer(EORTC QLQ-C30). The data were analyzed percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe s test, and Pearson s correlation coefficients using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program.

Results : The level of perceived self-efficacy and self-care was moderate and In terms of sub-scales of the patients QOL, the mean score of overall health status and functional area was moderate. symptomatical area in QOL was slightly low. There was a moderate positive correlation between self-care behavior and overall health status in QOL, but the functional and symptomatic area in QOL showed no significant correlation between them.

Conclusion : In conclusion, the higher level of self-efficacy was related to the higher level of self-care behavior, and so was self-behavior to overall health status in QOL. Therefore, nursing interventions are needed to promote self-efficacy and self-care behavior in order to enhance QOL among patients with hematologic malignancy.
