A Study on the Factors of Returning to Work for Workers with Industrially Injured: On the Mediating Effects of Job Competence

Abstract

|
Objective : This study aimed to analyze which factors affect return to work among persons with industrial injuries.
Methods : The data were obtained from the registry of injured workers at Korean Worker¡¯s compensation & Welfare services. Data were gathered from 1,803 persons with industrial injuries who completed medical treatment after their work injury in 2012. The data were finalized and refined using dummy coding procedures. The data were analyzed using statistical techniques such as frequency test, linear regression analysis based on the health factor, social factor, psychological factor, and the job competence.
Results : Health factor, social factor, psychological factor were mediated in part by job competence and had a significant impact on return to work.
Conclusion : Health factor, social factor, psychological factor and job competence are the main factors that improve return to work. Based on this study, theoretical implications and practical directions are suggested to support stable employment of injured workers.
