The Effects of the Interpersonal Rehabilitative Group Counseling Program on Interpersonal Competence for Clients with Chronic Mental Disorders

Clients with chronic mental conditions have difficulties in social perception and cognition that processes social stimuli and engages in communication. This study aimed to investigate the impact of a rehabilitative group counseling program on interpersonal competence among clients with chronic mental disorders. The study included 18 participants who were randomly assigned to either an experimental or control group. The program consisted of ten sessions over two weeks, with each session lasting 60 minutes. To measure the program's effectiveness, the Korean version of the interpersonal competence questionnaire was administered and analyzed pre, post, follow-up. Results showed that the group counseling program significantly improved the interpersonal competence of clients with chronic mental disorders. Limitations and implications of the study were discussed.
