Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of online Taekwondo competition participation on the self-esteem of elementary school students in the COVID-19 situation. The subjects were 60 elementary school students (2nd to 6th graders) who participated in the online Taekwondo competition and 60 people from the comparison group who did not participate. As a result of the study, in the case of the experimental group who had participated in the online taekwondo competition, self-esteem increased by 1.55 after (M=3.47) than before (M=1.92). In the case of the comparison group, there was little change before (M=1.96) and after (M=1.95). As such, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (t=46.747, p<.001). There was not much difference in self-esteem according to the gender of the participants, and it was found that self-esteem increased post-mortem compared to the pre-existing level, regardless of gender. The self-esteem according to the training time was found to have increased in all of them regardless of the training time. As a result, it can be seen that the experience of participating in online competitions due to COVID-19 had a positive effect on self-esteem.
