Effect of clinical nurses empathetic program on nursing students¡¯ empathetic effect, communication skill, professional self-concept

Abstract
|

|
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to develop and apply clinical nurses empathetic program and validate the effect of clinical nurses empathetic program on nursing students¡¯ empathetic effect, communication skill, professional self-concept.
Methods: Clinical nurses empathetic program is applied to nursing students who are attending A university in Gyeonggi-do. A total of 97 nursing students who practiced in ICU(intensive care unit). Clinical nurses empathetic program and questionnaires were given to nursing students during experienced practicing ICU, and data were collected between 2 March 2017 and 10 June.
Results: Empathetic effect (Mean=3.23 vs 3.41, t=-3.91, p£¼.001), communication skill(Mean=3.43 vs 3.74, t=-5.87, p£¼.001) and professional self-concept(Mean=2.85 vs 3.19, t=-7.31, p£¼.001)level were significantly increased after the clinical nurses empathetic program.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that clinical nurses empathetic program contributes to the enhancement of nursing students¡¯ empathetic effect, communication skill, professional self-concept.
