The Combat Stress, the Experience and Need for Health Promotion Programs of Soldiers of the Troops Dispatched Overseas according to Types of Position

Abstract
Purpose : This is a descriptive research project which examines the field stress, experience and need for health promotion programs of soldiers of the troops dispatched overseas according to types of position.

Methods : The research subjects were soldiers in the 00th Unit of the troops dispatched overseas. A structured questionnaire was used to assess general characteristics, combat stress, the experience and need for Health Promotion Program.

Results : For the 24 questions on combat stress, average score was 45.5¡¾15.81, and 44.3¡¾16.95 for battle units, 46.6¡¾14.66 for administrative soldiers. The experience with Health Promotion Program was measured through 26 subsidiary questions, among which 9.7 on average received statistically significant responses from battle units, and 5.9 on average from those in administrative positions. The need for Health Promotion Program showed not much of a statistically significant difference between battle units (6.8 on average) and administrative positions (6.9 on average).

Conclusion : The troops who were divided into subject groups according to their types of work, i.e. battle or administrative, showed statistically significant differences on general characteristics, combat stress, and the experience with health promotion programs. For need of health promotion programs, there was less of a statistical significant difference, but the research confirmed individual programs received high responses depending on type of work. The findings also confirmed that the effect of key factors including combat stress and experience on the need for health promotion programs.
